I am an active K-5 principal with administrative experience throughout all levels of K-12 education. This is a place where I will not pretend that I am without error. I know I am a strong leader and an effective principal, and I know that I make mistakes everyday. I wanted to talk through these wins and losses with you.
I work with a large charter network, and I am aware that it means I face some different challenges than some other folks in principalships. The truth is though, that the differences between traditional ISD’s and charter schools are diminishing each year. The most notable challenges are the same. I am worried about students who are at risk. I think constantly about how to best coach up teachers to give them the skills and tools they need to reach all of our students. I want to make sure that all of the members of the community we serve are as satisfied with the service we provide as possible.
We are on one team. We are on the team that gets the kids what they need to be as successful as they can be.
I believe that we are required to question what we “know” about education everyday. It is incumbent upon us to be the advocates for kids. We have to focus on building teachers that care about and understand their students. We have to be drivers for supporting these kids. We do not get get the luxury of making excuses.
